Americans Bought Enough Guns on Black Friday to Arm the Marine Corps

Black Friday, a day of commercial consumerism. The lines are wrapped around the buildings waiting for the deals of a lifetime. While you might think most consumers are out there waiting for the latest new toy or the biggest TV, many buyers on Black Friday are buying something totally different.

Black Friday is apparently the day to buy guns. Lots of guns!

According to the FBI spokesman Stephen Fischer, Black Friday shattered the single-day record for gun sales – with 185,713 background checks processed in a 24 hour period.  Fischer told Business Insider that nearly 400 more transactions were processed on Black Friday than in 2015.

Black Friday has predominately been the biggest day of the year for gun sales. Buyers can’t resist the temptation of the deep discounts. Gun ownership still remains a hot topic politically. While many breathed a sigh of relief that a Democrat will not be in the White House, many remain concerned about the potential loss of their Second Amendment rights.

As expected, gun sales skyrocket whenever Washington takes an anti-gun approach or states propose a law to make it harder for gun owners to purchase.

1129a3Gun maker Sturm, Ruger & Co. claimed in its third-quarter earnings statement that demand for guns was stronger than usual during the summer, likely caused by election-related rhetoric.

The number breaks down to slightly more than two background checks per second, or enough firearms to arm each of the 182,000 active duty members of the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fi!

Those numbers ignore the 20 states that allow millions of licensed concealed carriers to forego background checks on each purchase, in compliance with ATF guidelines. Also, more than one firearm can be purchased on a single background check. That means the number of firearms purchased on Black Friday is likely more than 200,000.

And that’s freaking awesome.

Well done, citizens, well done!! 🙂

  1. Dear Gun Control Zealots,

Once again we want to thank you for another banner year of gun sales. Please keep threatening to disarm Americans.

    Sincerely,
Gun Manufacturers and Sellers of America

  2. I must have missed the memo. I did not purchase any firearms during the Black Friday madness.
Ammunition, on the other hand, was a different story. A rifle without cartridges is just a fancy club.

  3. If only the lefty gun-grabbers could comprehend cold, hard logic (they can’t), it might be beneficial for them to ask themselves why gun enthusiasts – the ones who know guns and how they work – are happy to hear that something like 200,000 guns were purchased on Black Friday alone.

If guns were so evil and dangerous, why would those who know them best be so pleased to see more sold? We’re not heavily invested in the gun manufacturers, we don’t profit from these additional sales, why should we be happy? Shouldn’t we be afraid, or at least uncomfortable?

I figure that conundrum ought to keep their meager little brains tied in knots for a while.

    • You brought up some good points, Garnet, and let me add one more – if the lefty gun-grabbers could comprehend logic, they wouldn’t be lefties, lol.

    • I’m a leftist. Hell, I’m an old school socialist. I’m everything Fox News tells you to hate. I also added a couple new items to my armory this weekend, including an AK that I’ve had my eye on, of course.
Us versus them mentality rarely, if ever, is effective. The way to bring people to the light in regards to firearms is education, showing folks that guns aren’t inherently evil. Ridiculing those who think differently, pigeon holeing is on the left as weak, meager minded gun grabbers who don’t understand freedom accomplishes nothing to that end. It only makes you seem like a dick. And people aren’t going to turn their minds around on the words of a dick.

      • Hi Gonzobeer, thanks for the input. Most of the lefties I’ve talked with don’t want to be educated or have their minds changed. They’ve already closed their minds to other thoughts and would rather go on believing myths. It can be very frustrating and often brings on the next step, that being ridicule. I find it best to walk away or change the subject when it gets to that point.

You know, they say that admitting what you are is the first step in fixing the problem. 😉
