President Obama said that nations will have to give up some of their autonomy and freedom to achieve security on Tuesday during his speech to the United Nations General Assembly.
Obama told the audience that he believes global security can be achieved with the help of international institutions like the U.N. In his remarks, Obama said “powerful nations” like the United States will have to accept constraints and give up some of their freedom. The president acknowledged that he has been criticized by his own citizens for this belief, but that he remains convinced he is right. Obama also stated that, while countries will have to accept some limits on their freedom, they should not give up the right to defend themselves.
“We can only realize the promise of this institution’s founding to replace the ravages of war with cooperation if powerful nations like my own accept constraints,” Obama said. “I’m convinced in the long run giving up some freedom of action, not giving up our ability to protect ourselves or pursue our core interests but binding ourselves to international rules, over the long-term, enhances our security.”

We have to put our money where our mouths are. And we can only realize the promise of this institution’s founding to replace the ravages of war with cooperation if powerful nations like my own accept constraints. Sometimes I’m criticized in my own country for professing a belief in international norms and multilateral institutions, but I’m convinced in the long run giving up some freedom of action, not giving up our ability to protect ourselves or pursue our core interests but binding ourselves to international rules, over the long-term, enhances our security.

And this is one of those times Mr. Obama – when you’re criticized in your own country.
It was hard for me to type “in your own country” as if the United States was truly ever “your” country. It’s been apparent for almost eight years that you were trying to change the U.S. into something more to your liking, like a clone of the United Nations. You’ll find a lot of kindred spirits there, Barry, other socialists who believe themselves qualified to govern a nation (YOU certainly were not). It certainly follows that you would expect the U.S. to give up some “freedom of action” like, I’m sure, freedoms of speech and religion, and most assuredly, the freedom to keep and bear arms.
WE will NOT be bound by the U.N.’s international rules, those rules are completely at odds with the Constitution of the United States. I’ve been ready for the U.S. to jettison the U.N. for years now and if your dream is realized (that you become Secretary General), I trust that enough citizens will rise up and force Congress to withdraw from that useless and feckless body.

He hates it that we are superior to other countries, and is without a doubt, the most infuriating man I’ve ever had the pleasure not to know. Eight years on the job and he still refuses to acknowledge that what sets us apart from other countries are the very freedoms he’d so willingly give away.
That bit about not giving up our ability to protect ourselves was just a bone he tossed us – everyone, including those guys at the UN, knows he’s spent both his terms trying to disarm the American people. What a load of hogwash.

I guess all of the claptrap and propaganda that Barry absorbed in his formative years really stuck and have prevented him from ever really seeing the U.S. as a force of good in the world. As you say, he has stubbornly refused to acknowledge the good that we’ve done for others. He apparently still views us as an enemy – or perhaps a Great Satan who needs to be taught a lesson.
Instead of accepting the great honor of being elected to be the head of state for a great nation, he feels that he was chosen to be the destroyer of that great nation. How screwed up is that?
