Mueller to Release Findings on Russia Probe After the Midterms

By Chuck Ross, 10-17-18, at The Daily Caller:

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is planning to present key findings from his investigation of President Donald Trump after November’s midterm elections, according to a report from Bloomberg News.

Two U.S. officials told Bloomberg that Mueller could very well continue his investigation after presenting his findings to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing the Trump-Russia probe because of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ recusal.

Rosenstein will then have the option of releasing the Mueller findings to the public and making recommendations to Congress.

Since May 2017, Mueller has been investigating whether members of the Trump campaign conspired with Russian government officials to release emails stolen from Democrats. He is also investigating whether Trump himself obstructed justice by firing James Comey as FBI director.

Comey’s firing, on May 9, 2017, paved the way for Mueller’s appointment as special counsel.

Mueller’s investigation so far has received mixed reviews, largely along partisan lines. Trump often calls the probe a “witch hunt” that he considers illegal.

Mueller has obtained guilty pleas from former Trump associates Michael Flynn, George Papadopoulos, Paul Manafort, and Rick Gates, though none have admitted to colluding with Russia. He has also indicted another 25 Russian nationals involved in hacking of the DNC’s emails and attempting to influence the election by creating fake online personas.

Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, has also pleaded guilty in New York on charges of tax evasion and bank fraud related to his taxi medallion business. He also pleaded guilty to making an improper campaign contribution by helping arrange a payoff to Stormy Daniels, the porn star who claims she had an affair with Trump in 2006.

Cohen is cooperating with federal prosecutors and has met with the special counsel’s office. Manafort is also cooperating with Mueller’s team. It is not clear yet whether either former Trump associate has provided information about the campaign.

There have been some signs that Mueller’s investigation is nearing the end. Trump’s legal team recently began preparing written responses to questions regarding collusion submitted by Mueller’s prosecutors. And at least four of those prosecutors have recently left the special counsel’s office.

One Trump associate who is still in Mueller’s crosshairs is Roger Stone, the political operative who served as an informal adviser to Trump during the campaign. Mueller is investigating Stone’s possible ties to Wikileaks, which published emails stolen from the DNC and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.

In a nutshell, this means Mueller has nothing that will help the Dems win seats – it’s likely the other way around, so he’ll wait until after the elections.  There’s no evidence to support the collusion theory or he would be releasing it prior to the election. It’s a big expensive nothing burger, just as we’ve said all along.

Hopefully, once his report is out, Trump will shut this freak show down. Enough is enough.

  1. Freak show is right Kathy. It’s a bunch of clowns clowing around with other people’s lives for political reasons.

    Sometimes I hate politics.

And I agree with you that this happening after the election shows how little Mueller has, nothing actually. IF the Dems win they can then go off in other directions to wreak havoc with the president.

    PRAY!!! For these midterms!

    • Anything is possible of course, but after Trump winning, then the whole Kavanaugh fiasco, Republicans are more fired up than they’ve been in a long time. The Dems are losing their minds, they have voters walking away and they’re inciting violence. I don’t see them winning and maybe they don’t either. Maybe that’s why they’re so desperate right now. Pray is right!!

  2. I agree 100%, Kathy. If Mueller had anything of consequence on Trump he’d be itching to release it right now. The best he could muster was to remind voters of the existence of the investigation before they head to the polls.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Mueller tries to make something out of his nothing-burger investigation and taint Trump on his way out by saying something like, “Although collusion and obstruction could not be definitively proven, there was evidence to suggest blah, blah, blah…” He’s going to want to maintain his hero status with the Left.

    • True that, CW, Mueller will leave as big a mark as possible and the Dems will run with it skewed to be a guilty verdict.

It might be interesting to see Huber’s report come out either right before the elections or right after them and compare the two.

  3. I agree 100% with your conclusion. This whole “investigation” has been a clown act right from the jump, but to come out right before the election and admit that “We got nuthin'” might be too depressing for the snowflakes whose votes they’re counting on, and could affect the outcome of the election.

    Mueller’s nothing but a two-dollar pox-ridden whore.

    • Clown act is a good description, and it’s obvious that after more than a year and a half he’s still got nothing – he could have concluded this scam a long time ago. Interesting too that all the charges and indictments that have come from this have zero to do with Russian collusion. Huge waste of time and money!
