It’s Time for a Different Kind of Reset Button

An opinion piece by Pete Hoekstra, 6-5-17, at Fox News:

London, Manchester, Paris, Nice, Brussels, Kabul, Baghdad, the global carnage continues. Once again the West has been shocked by a horrific radical terrorist attack, the responses by our political leaders have become almost boiler plate:

·         We will not let them win, they’ve claimed.

·         We will not let them change us.

·         Go on living your lives.

·         We will fight the terrorists and we will defeat them.

Some have even claimed that we are winning. But enough is enough. It is time to get serious.

It is time for honesty. Not the typical political sound bites. In early 2016 the Investigative Project on Terrorism, the organization published a study on trends in radical Islamic terrorism. The data was frightening, two statistics stand out. Fatalities from terrorist attacks had increased 744 percent from 2007-2011 to 2014-2015.  The average annual fatalities had increased from roughly 3,200 deaths per year to approximately 27,000 deaths per year. The number of terrorist attacks during that time increased by roughly 500 percent.

The West has not realized that it is losing this fight against radical Islam.

I’m not the first to make this observation. Going back to 2011, former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, made the same statement, maintaining that the West was losing this war against radical Islamic terrorism. His statement came before the developments of the past five years with spikes in fatalities and terrorist attacks, a caliphate in Syria and Iraq, and with Libya and Yemen becoming failed states.

Accordingly, it is worth highlighting two predictions from the 2016 IPT report. The analysis concludes that “Islamist attacks in Europe will increase over the next 18-24 months.” The report also notes that “Europe’s security systems will become more stressed and unable to respond to the rising challenges associated with the mass migration of refugees. Violence in Europe will increase in size and scope as Islamists exploit its nearly unregulated immigration system and Muslim enclaves such as Molenbeek in Brussels become more widespread.”

In early 2016, the unfolding threat was screaming for a forceful response by the West. But there was no change in strategy or focus. There was zero recognition or admission that much of what had been done to combat radical Islamic terrorism over the last fifteen years had failed.

Thus, 2017 will most likely go down as the deadliest year in the “war against terrorism.” This ought to be a wakeup call to everyone.  President Trump has recognized the need and the current situation.  But he is the exception.

We all need to recognize the reality that we are not winning this war. Partisan divides need to be pushed aside. It is time to do a lessons-learned review to test what has worked and what has failed over the last 15 years. We need to implement new strategies to combat radical Islamic terrorism.

To defeat this threat, we need to hit the reset button. The citizens of the harrowing attacks in London, Manchester, Paris, Orlando, Boston, Kabul, Baghdad, and the many other cities and countries around the globe are demanding change from their political leaders to prevent future attacks.

Let’s hope that they finally respond.

Anjem Choudarya jailed British hate preacher who has become ISIS’ rock star radicalizer in the UK, predicted Britain will become a muslim country within 30 years. With their huge and growing larger muslim population, they’re getting dangerously close already.

I’d say a reset button is indeed in order. Assuming it’s not already too late, it should start with Europe. First they need to recognize that the muslims in general are the problem, not just the ones they labeled as radicalized. You simply cannot tell the bad ones from the good ones. Their way of life and their ‘religion’ makes it impossible to assimilate in other countries.

Looking at history for the past 1400 years, victory was gained only by driving them back. Once that truth is accepted, follow it with deporting muslims by the hundreds and shutting down their borders. Like the US, they are not equipped, either financially or physically, to handle millions of people flowing into their countries.

In the US, all Americans must accept the same truths. We must follow that by ceasing to allow more refugees into our country and getting control of our borders. It is past time to focus on our own and stop being the caregivers to people fully intent on wiping us off the face of the earth.

  1. Unfortunately, it may take another attack of a 9/11 magnitude for us to tolerate the political baggage that goes with Trump’s policy – the original one, not the watered-down one – to be acceptable to our people. Too many “progressives” still want to believe that if we only treated them better, we’d be safe from Muslim terrorists. Trump is on the right track if only it can be implemented. But even then, it’s only a start. I’d like to prevent any Sharia-compliant Muslim from entering at all.

There’s only one way to accept Muslims into the U. S. – they must disavow Islam and assimilate into our culture. They cannot continue to be true Muslims and become Americans, so they must dump Islam if they want to come to America. Even the “innocent” Muslims still won’t condemn the terrorists and would likely give comfort and aid to them is called on to do so. It’s simple, Sharia and our Constitution cannot co-exist therefore anyone entering the U.S. must choose – one or the other.

  2. There was a minor victory of sorts yesterday when I read that no Muslim Imams in London would agree to perform services for the deceased terrorists. Apparently that’s new, which ought to shed light on the extent to which the Muslim population has been emboldened up to this point. I presume public outrage has FINALLY gotten to the point that the Imams are worried they might face public backlash (or police scrutiny), proving that when people have the good sense and backbone to be strong and stand up for themselves these bratty subcultures will back down. Had the Europeans been strong and stood up in defense of preserving their culture years ago they wouldn’t be where they are now, with a huge – and perhaps irreversible problem. Stupid Americans should take note, because our leftist enablers are herding us down the very same path.

    • My guess would that police scrutiny is the reason – they probably don’t want to give them cause for poking around in the mosques.

Those leftist enablers think that sympathizing with them will save their necks when the time comes. The truth is they’re the ones standing in the way of their own freedom and security, by stifling efforts to protect the US.

  3. It really is time to say it out loud. We are at war with Islam.

  4. Islam is evil.

You will note in the article Pete Hoekstra says “radical Islam” and “radical Islamic terrorism.” It is a common and incorrect meme. Kathy on the other hand is correct to say those “labeled as radicalized.”

For Christians to call themselves Christian they must follow the teaching of Christ and the Bible. For Muslims it is the same. To be a true believing Muslim one must follow the teachings of Muhammad and the Qur’an. To anyone with a little common sense this is obvious. Our media, almost without exception, uses the “radical” modifier when speaking of Muslims and Islam after every heinous incident. Again, it is a false meme. Muhammad was a murderer, rapist, child abuser, and enslaver – a terrorist, and his follows, by definition, must be too. The radical Muslims are the ones not following Muhammad and not committing atrocities. Words have meaning. When we are not using the right word for the right thing confusion occurs, or worse intentional misdirection. It is political correctness run amok. I view it as pure deceit.

Ye shall know them by their fruits.

    • So very true, nocultsclub, words have meaning and they continually get twisted, mostly by the Dems, but they’re not the only ones.

Even so, I’d be willing to set aside the labels as a low priority item in exchange for driving them back to the Middle East or wiping them out, whichever occurs first. We’ll never change them and people need to accept that fact. As long as they’re not in our spaces, they can be as evil as they want to each other, but we have to force them to leave the rest of us alone. Only by being smarter, stronger and more powerful will we be able to accomplish that.

  5. The day we develop a true alternative to oil for all purposes (including aviation, shipping, trains, cars, trucks, power plants, etc), we must demand that our politicians finally pronounce the truth of what the quran and hadith say, and pronounce that islam is pure evil.

Then deport each and every one of them, regardless of citizenship status
