Let’s start with the bad news first. and that comes from Breitbart where they’re reporting that migrants are still arriving at the Texas border in record numbers, despite Trump’s efforts to slow down the traffic.
Breitbart Texas traveled to an area near the Anzalduas International Bridge where within minutes, three separate groups of migrants walked up a dirt road looking for U.S. Border Patrol agents. Nearly two dozen were made up mostly of women and children who had been told by human smugglers to walk up the road and turn themselves in to federal agents.
The most recent statistics available from U.S. Customs and Border Protection revealed that from October to December as part of the 2017 fiscal year, agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector detained 13,624 unaccompanied minors, versus 10,527 that were counted during the same time period in 2016. The number of apprehensions points to a 29 percent increase over the previous year. Throughout the entire southwest border, the increase is 23 percent–rising from 17,304 unaccompanied minors in 2016 to 21,321 according to the most recent figures.
In the case of families, the number of apprehensions in the Rio Grande Valley has skyrocketed from 14,337 in 2016 to 30,293, an increase of 111 percent. Throughout the entire southwest border, the number of families arrested at the border has jumped from 21,469 in 2016 to 44,843 in 2017.
The Anzalduas Bridge is south of McAllen, Tx where apparently Border Patrol agents still let them in if they utter the word asylum, as coached by the coyotes and smugglers. Just once it would be so refreshing to read a story where the agents actually told them no, turned them around and sent them walking back down south. Word would eventually get out that’s it’s not so easy to get in the US anymore.
And now for the good news…
Fox News Insider reports that there’s been a spike in the number of border crossings going into Canada. Yes, you read that right – refugees are actually leaving the US and crossing into Canada where they hope to seek asylum and apprise themselves of the social benefits offered by our neighbor to the north.
Trump has vowed to crack down on illegal immigrants in the United States, while Trudeau has promised to welcome refugees fleeing violence and persecution.
An immigration lawyer in Quebec told Fox News that crossers are coming from the United States fearing deportation by the Trump administration.
Molly Line reported that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is looking at adding resources, expecting the crossings to pick up even more in the spring and summer.
The Fox News crew was on hand as two young men from Yemen walked across the border Tuesday and were met by police.
While the number of people leaving isn’t near as large as the number still entering, at least some of them took Trump at his word and are ‘gettin’ the hell outta Dodge’ and that’s a good thing.
Unless you’re a Canadian, and in particular one of the RCMP, which could soon be as overwhelmed as our own Border Patrol have been for the past few years. Any guesses as to who will be wanting the next border wall?
