Valerie Jarrett: My Grandfather May Not Have Died If He Didn’t Have a Gun for Self-Defense

Following a gun control gathering designed to mark the fourth anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School attack, Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett suggested her grandfather may have lived longer if he did not have a gun for self-defense.

The gun control gathering was called a Vigil for Victims of Violence and was held in Washington, D.C.’s St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Jarrett said she “didn’t have the strength” to tell her story to those who attended the meeting. Instead, she decided to write her story and publish it in The Huffington Post. It is a story about her grandfather, who lost his life after being attacked by “two burglars” in his D.C. office 45 years ago. Jarrett wrote:

My grandfather was an avid hunter and owned several guns. He practiced dentistry in an office in the basement of his home here in D.C. Forty-five years ago, two burglars broke into his office in search of opiates. They threatened my grandfather with what turned out to be a toy gun. In an attempt to scare away the burglars, my grandfather pulled out one of his guns. They grabbed his gun, then shot and killed him.

She went on to suggest that her grandfather may have lived longer if he did not have a gun to pull in self-defense. Jarrett’s grandfather, however, died at the hands of two men who overpowered him, although he was armed–which means they most certainly could have overpowered him had he not been armed.

Moreover, the attempt to use her grandfather’s horrible death to push gun control–“We are not always safer just because we own a gun”–bypasses the fact that her grandfather pulled his gun because the situation was dire. The gun the criminals held was fake, but the criminals’ intent was not.

In suggesting it was her grandfather’s possession of a gun that endangered him, rather than the two burglars’ criminality, Jarrett also misses the fact that guns are used 760,000 times a year for self-defense. Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck’s work on defensive gun uses discovered this figure. His work entered the public dialogue in 1993 and has yet to be countered with “empirical evidence.”

My friends, as sorry as I am to learn of Jarrett’s grandfather’s attack and death, the conclusion that she draws from that incident is so wrong, so illogical as to boggle the mind.

Her story and her conclusion is an example of the warped, illogical thinking that has been in charge of our government for the past eight years. She is Obama’s SENIOR ADVISOR and it’s widely reported that she is extremely influential in ALL matters. She has an all-access pass to ALL of  Obama’s meetings, her own Secret Service detail, and is privy to EVERYTHING that the president is considering. She is not only a close personal friend to Barack, but to Michelle as well – in other words, she’s a close family friend and confident. She is essentially a “shadow” president – she is SPOTUS – behind the scenes, but directing the action none the less. And the specious logic exhibited in her story explains a lot about how and why the country is so screwed up. Valerie Jarrett is the most powerful woman in Washington – God help us.

The flawed logic that she uses to decide that her granddad was at fault for trying to defend himself is illustrative of some of the assinine decisions coming out of the White House – this is what passes for logical thought to these people.

  1. How about her grandfather died because he didn’t pull the trigger fast enough and they got the better of him before he could. How about what was his age exactly, compared to the intruders. How about it was the situation at the moment and not about owning a gun. Those leftists, they can sure spin a tale. Much better than the truth. She is such a prick. But that’s how she was raised.

  2. I’m going to have to get here faster – Kathy keeps beating me to the punch!

Valerie Jarrett is a typical leftist who’s instinctively wrong on everything. The moral to this story is NOT to disarm yourself. The lesson is to know how to handle your gun and don’t hesitate to use it. Understand that there are vicious, dangerous people who will not hesitate to kill you or hurt you and act accordingly.

  3. You’re right Garnet – she couldn’t be more wrong. But that’s how libs twist words and events.

Her grandfather died because of his ineptness in handling a gun – my guess is it was a shot gun because it would be easier to wrestle away from him. Regardless, he should have fired it immediately and made believers out of them. That old saying – don’t pull a gun unless you intend to use it.

Fortunately, she wrote it down instead of speaking those words to a crowd. At least this way, she didn’t have to see people scoffing at her and shaking their heads.

Shame on her and all the others that use Sandy Hook as an example for gun control. Again, they couldn’t be more wrong about what the solution is.
