Petition to Name the Next Navy Ship ‘USS The Deplorables’

From:,  by Erika Haas,  on Dec 5, 2016

Back in September, during a private fundraising event, Hillary Clinton called half of Donald Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables.”

“You know, just to be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables,” Clinton said as the audience laughed. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately, there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”

Needless to say, the “deplorables” weren’t laughing.

However, a few days later, after the initial sting wore off, Trump’s supporters began embracing the label. It became a rallying point, something that banded all of them together. “Deplorable” was no longer an insult, but a brand many displayed proudly. And now Trump’s supporters would like to brand the next major U.S. Navy ship “deplorable,” as well.

That’s right. There is a petition on the White House website to name the next big Navy Ship “USS The Deplorables.” According to the petition, the ship would “honor those citizens who rose up to defend America and The Constitution from the globalists.”

As of this morning, the petition had 33 signatures. That’s a long way off from the 100,000 signatures needed by January 3  to get a response from the White House.

Can you imagine – years from now, as the proud “USS The Deplorables” is seen sailing out to sea, adults will be explaining to their children how it came by that name and proudly admitting, “yes, Timmy, your mom and dad were both prouddeplorables.'”

Please don’t forget to sign the petition, I did.

  1. I wasn’t a Trump supporter either, but I do enjoy seeing that term embraced and shoved back in her face.

    • I think that we all just considered the source and decided that if she thought that her labeling us as “deplorables” was derogatory, then we need to take the term and shove it up her butt and the best way to do that was to redefine it to be a badge of honor.

The only problem will be that when Chelsea runs for president, she’ll be telling voters that her mom was the one who named the ship the “USS The Deplorables,” like Hillary educating voters about how she was named for Sir Edmund.

  2. Signed it.

  3. You’ll have to count me out on this one. I wasn’t a Trump supporter (other than my not-Hillary vote), and if I had been I wouldn’t have embraced the “deplorable” label.

    But… each his own! 🙂

    • As you know, I wasn’t a Trump supporter either, but I still interpreted Hillary’s statement to include any conservative, Trump supporter or not. You know that’s the way she would characterize all conservatives and that’s the way I took it.

She was, as usual, trying to cast anyone not for her in a bad light and thus, my acceptance of, and eventual warming to the “deplorables” label.

I am proud to be among those that Hillary would characterize as being in her “basket of deplorables.” Even though I’m not racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, and Islamaphobic. I think that she’d be angry to learn that her smear turned out to be a “badge of honor” among those she was attempting to shame and discredit.
