Judge Tells Court He Would Dump All Guns in the Ocean

Citing how well it worked in Australia, a judge in Portland, Oregon tells a defendant, “Nobody would have a gun. Not police, not security, not anybody. We should eliminate all of them.”

With murderer Marcell Lee Daniel Jr. silent in front of his bench, Multnomah County Circuit Judge Kenneth Walker blasted firearms as the uncharged culprit in court this week.

“If I could I would take all the guns in America, put them on big barges, and go dump them in the ocean,” says Walker in the above video from the Oregonian. “Nobody would have a gun. Not police, not security, not anybody. We should eliminate all of them. We could save 33,000 people a year if we didn’t have guns in this country.”

The solution? Australia bought up some 700,000 firearms in 1997 for $500 million, and disposed of them in various ways, including tossing several thousand military surplus Enfield and FN rifles into the Pacific Ocean. To be clear, a myriad of firearms remained in legal circulation and today there are an estimated 3 million guns in the hands of civilians ‘Down Under. But that did not deter Judge Walker’s argument.

“Australia after a major shooting rounded up all the guns, and they haven’t had near the death that we do here in this country,” says Walker.

Of course, facts being what they are, Melbourne– Australia’s second largest city– has seen 100 shootings since last January. In the past decade, firearms offenses have more than doubled from 2,308 to 4,947 in the city.

As for Daniel, he received 17 1/2 years in prison as a result of the 2014 drive-by shooting in North Portland that left Andrew Coggins dead. If he serves all of his time, Daniel will be released around age 42.

Speaking of Australia, life imprisonment is mandatory for murder in several states including Queensland, South Australia, and the Northern Territory.

Guess Walker hadn’t heard about that one.

According to OregonLive, Judge Walker also said:

“I just saw last night a statistic that 11,000 people in America are murdered each year and another 20,000 commit suicide with guns,” Walker said, referring to figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“They are a scourge of this country and no one should have one as far as I’m concerned,” he said. “There’s no defense to guns. There’s just absolutely no reason to have them. But it is a right of people in this country to own and possess them, and I will not say anything to affect that right.”

Like most lefty gun control nuts, this judge is focused on the tool used to commit the murder, and seeking to punish it, rather than the person who used the tool to take another life. People have been murdering others with guns for hundreds of years, and stabbings go back for thousands of years, so clearly, punishing or banishing the weapon isn’t the solution. It’s a people problem, and apparently one that can’t be fixed.

Judge Walker’s first amendment rights give him the right to voice his opinion, but personally, I don’t think it belongs in a courtroom, particularly when addressing the defendant who’s been judged guilty of murder. His words, as well as what seems like a light sentence for murder, show sympathy to a man who deserves none. If he hates guns so much, his time would be better spent trying to change the punishment phase within our justice system.

Comparing the US to Australia is like comparing apples to oranges and it’s an invalid argument. Nice try, Judge.

  1. Judge Walker is an imbecile and most likely a racist based upon his membership in the Association of Oregon Black Lawyers. I think he resents having to put this thug in prison. His rant makes him sound like one of those finalists in a Miss Junior High beauty competition.

I’m sure the lefty blogs are excited with praise for Walker’s ingenious ideas to bring peace and tranquility to the world, but those of us living in the world of reality know the truth of how Walker’s brilliant suggestion would play out:

Day 1: Round up all guns and dump in ocean.
Day 2: Face massive lawsuit from Greenpeace.
Day 3: Watch in helpless horror as thugs immediately begin forming gangs to intimidate and victimize the defenseless and disorganized.
Day 4: Judge Walker and leftists scratch their bearded chins trying to understand what went wrong.
Day 5: They make laws declaring it illegal to form gangs to intimidate and victimize people.
Day 6: The ACLU sues on behalf of the gangs.
Day 7: Judge Walker becomes a victim of the gangs, who beat him up and rape his wife and daughter. He blames Republicans.
Day 8: The lefties introduce “Walker’s Law” legalizing the use of guns by police as well as the hiring of armed guards for government personnel and their families.

    • You paint a really good picture of what would follow if Walker were to have his way, CW, but brainiacs like him never think that far in advance. He also makes the idyllic assumption that all the bad guys would hand over their weapons too and we know that will never happen, just like it didn’t happen in Australia that he lamely tried to use as a good example of gun control.

  2. If I had my way I’d dump all leftists in the ocean.

Best thing that could ever happen to this country.

  3. I used to get so frustrated trying to sense about guns with ardent hoplophobes, that my blood pressure would rise faster than a Saturn V.
I am now at that place where if one starts yammering about how banning all guns will eliminate killings, I simply say, “Remember the story of Cain and Abel? Discussion is over.”

  4. Taking the judge’s “solution” to a logical conclusion, let’s envision Judge Walker at age 79, weak and frail, walking with the help of a cane, when he’s accosted by a couple of youths who want his money, credit cards, even his cane. What will he do? Beg them for mercy?

If they’re in a bad mood, they may pummel him and kick in his ribs just for the pleasure of it. What will he do? Whimper and hope he survives?

Suppose his granddaughter is with him. She’s pretty and the reprobates take a liking to her. She can scream and he can yell. But what else can he do? Turn away as his granddaughter is raped?

When I read this worthless P.O.S. judge’s comment, I had to post my old “Reason or force” piece. It recognizes that it takes a gun to give an older, weaker victim an equal footing when accosted by a couple of street criminals. Apparently, he’s never been in that situation else he’d be singing a different tune.

    • Many times, that’s the problem with lefties – they don’t think ahead or see the overall picture. When someone lets it be known that they don’t like guns, it’s usually a good indication they don’t own one. He probably doesn’t have a clue just how at risk he is right now and how much worse it could be when he gets older. Proving you don’t have to be Einstein to become a judge!
