A feel-good story worth reading

Good samaritan and teacher

This is such a great story.

It’s not only illustrates the goodness of the human spirit, it also displays that blacks and whites do help each one another – contrary to what Barack Obama believes and what the racial hate-mongers rely on to keep themselves viable.

I read this story in an article on PJ Media. It was written by Lauren Spagnoletti and published on August 23. Here’s what she wrote:

We increasingly hear stories of teachers who use a not-so-small portion of their already meager paychecks to buy school supplies for their students. More often than not, education budgets are getting slashed and the slugging economy is resulting in fewer parents being able to cover the costs of their children’s necessary supplies. Sabrina Drude from San Antonio, Texas, is one of those teachers who cares immensely for her students. Recently she was shopping at Wal-Mart and the man behind her in the checkout line noticed the dozens and dozens of school supplies in her cart. He asked her why she was purchasing so many pencils and notebooks, and she explained that she teaches in a low socioeconomic area and that many of her students can’t afford to buy the necessary supplies.

From CBS News:

Touched by the woman’s kind gesture, the man offered to pay for everything in the woman’s cart. She thanked him, but said she couldn’t accept his money.

But when $97 flashed on the cash register, the man, later identified as Lester Brown, jumped between Drude and the cashier with a bill in his hand.

“He said, ‘Put your wallet away,’ and I just started crying,” Drude told CBS News. “That’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard.”

Drude, who was buying the supplies because she didn’t want any of her students to feel embarrassed because they couldn’t afford what was needed, was touched by the stranger’s selfless gesture. He told her he was helping because teachers don’t get the recognition they deserve.

And Drude said she plans to tell her students about the man’s good deed.

“This is exactly the type of person I want to influence my kids to be,” said Drude, adding that she plans to ask Brown to join her class for a pizza party. “I want him to inspire my kids just like he inspired me; if any of my kids grew up to be half the man he is I’d be very proud.”

Kudos to the Lester Brown who voluntarily helped Ms. Drude. That was an entirely selfless act of kindness and this is the kind of story that ought to go “viral.” It just might convey to young people that Black Lives Matter and president Obama don’t tell the whole story. They don’t tell of how whites helped blacks and blacks helped whites during the tragic flooding of South Louisiana. That’s not the positive story that the racial activists want to publicize, it doesn’t advance their racist goals.

This is the kind of story that reminds us that there are still good people. Both the teacher and Mr. Brown were performing selfless acts for the benefit of others. Neither expected a reward or acclaim for what they did, they just thought that it was the right thing to do.

There are countless fatherless homes in this country right now and it’s a shame that each doesn’t have a man like Lester Brown there to help teach those kids grow up to be righteous citizens.

Three cheers for Mr. Brown and for Ms. Drude, both of whom make us all proud.

  1. Awesome story and commentary, Garnet! Both of these great people should be commended.

To think that Barack Obama could bring attention to these kinds of stories but instead chooses to incite distrust and animosity between blacks and whites every chance he gets underscores what tragic times we live in.

    • As I’ve said before, Barack Obama missed a golden opportunity. He could have been a historical figure like Lincoln – a figure held in esteem like Martin Luther King, if he had spent any energy at all in unifying the races. As our first black president, the symbolism was there. He could have had a positive impact on race relations and been raised to sainthood, particularly among blacks, if he’d even tried.

But he chose another direction – one that has succeeded in increasing acrimony and distrust between the races. He has done so much to damage the United States that I hope that he goes down in history as one of our most villainous political figures – ever. He is a great deal like many of the inner-city gang members who talk a good game, but whose achievements never measure up. He could never do anything like Mr. Brown did, it’s too selfless. In his soul, Obama’s just a big-talking punk.
