MSNBC’s Morning Joe panel had a lengthy discussion Monday about the “uncomfortable” facts of Bill Clinton’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the known pedophile billionaire whose jet Clinton flew on dozens of times.
Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump has been unafraid to level attacks against the Clintons for the former president’s past of sexual misconduct, calling him fair game. Fox News reported last week that Clinton flew on Epstein’s jet, the crudely named “Lolita Express,” far more than was previously known in the last decade.
Panelist Donny Deutsch guessed that Trump would have no problem counter-punching with the Epstein connection whenever he was hit for his own behavior with women, as he was last weekend in a piece in the New York Times.
“Here’s the tennis game,” Deutsch said. “Donald Trump kissed a woman in a bathing suit. Trump hits back: Tell me about the president’s relationship with a guy named Jeffrey Epstein. That’s your tennis match.”
Deutsch explained to host Joe Scarborough Epstein’s sordid past, adding “no one wants to talk about it, but that’s the fact.”
“I will say this was a blind spot for me, because I’m not in New York circles,” Scarborough said. “This is something I have been hearing about for a year-and-a half. I don’t know the whole story or anything, but I keep having reporters say, ‘This is going to blow up.’”
Columnist Mike Barnicle said the race was going to get “incredibly ugly,” and former GOP strategist Steve Schmidt said he had no doubt Trump was going to “go there.”
“When Hillary was Clinton out there yesterday talking about I’m going to put my husband in charge of reviving the economy in Kentucky for the coal miners, he’s very much going to be a part of the campaign, and the Donald Trump campaign’s going to do everything to make him an issue in the campaign,” Schmidt said.
Scarborough asked again if the Epstein story was the “bombshell” reporters told him it might be.
“In some of the cases, the facts will be uncomfortable for the Clintons,” panelist Mark Halperin said. “The Clinton folks understand now better than they did before that this is a different kind of opponent, and they’ve never run against anybody like this before … She has to stand up herself against a guy with better skills.”
We’re talking about a woman with so many connections and so much money, she’s managed to escape more scandals than thought humanly possible, so it’s doubtful this news will blow up Hillary’s campaign. However we can hope, because we don’t need that woman anywhere near the White House ever again.
After seeing Trump attack every Republican opponent throughout his campaign, leaving nothing untouched, there’s no doubt he’ll use this if she pushes him. He has been brutal in his responses to the ‘not nice’ things people have said about him and Hillary will be fair game, and perhaps more so now that he’s all but locked up the Republican nomination. Their prior friendship and those donations he made to the Clintons will all be water under the bridge.
Even without Hillary’s plans to give Bill a major role in her potential administration, it’s going to be tough for her to defend his association with a known pedophile, who, as Fox News reported, spent 13 months in prison and in home detention for solicitation and procurement of minors for prostitution.
“Bill Clinton … associated with a man like Jeffrey Epstein, who everyone in New York, certainly within his inner circles, knew was a pedophile,” said Conchita Sarnoff, of the Washington, D.C. based non-profit Alliance to Rescue Victims of Trafficking, and author of a book on the Epstein case called “TrafficKing.” “Why would a former president associate with a man like that?”
I think we know why Ms. Sarnoff. It’s been widely reported that flight logs show Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s jet at least 26 times, as opposed to the 11 trips reported earlier. Epstein, who coincidentally also owned a 72-acre island dubbed “Orgy Island” where he allegedly trafficked girls as young as 12 years old to his friends. Was that Bill’s destination?
Those flight logs show that trips between 2001 and 2003 included extended junkets around the world with Epstein and fellow passengers identified on manifests by their initials or first names, including “Tatiana.” The tricked-out jet earned its nickname because it was reportedly outfitted with a bed where passengers had group sex with young girls. Official flight logs filed with the FAA show Clinton traveled on some of the trips with as many as 10 U.S. Secret Service agents. However, on a five-leg Asia trip between May 22 and May 25, 2002, not a single Secret Service agent is listed.
Trump would be crazy not to use this info against her, but it’s likely not enough to cause her to fold up and go home. No, she’s suffered through far worse than this, and always with that ultimate goal in mind and that’s her skanky butt planted in the Oval Office behind that Resolute desk.
“Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night.”
