What You Should Know About Trey Gowdy

So far, he’s squeaky clean, but the left-wing destruction machine isn’t in full nuclear attack mode yet. They will be soon and we’ll learn that Gowdy is an awful person. He’s a racist – why? Because he married a white woman (a female of no-color). He’s homophobic because he married a woman (weren’t there any men around?), and he’s anti-feminist because he has children (OMG, why didn’t he just abort them?). And he’s a (gasp) Southern Baptist so he’s got to be a religious nutcase. And that’s just for starters, they’ll scour the earth to find something, anything to attack him over.

Even though I’m not a fan of Speaker Boehner, tan John finally did something right. And he had some words of wisdom that the democrats might take to heart, “Trey Gowdy is as dogged, focused, and serious-minded as they come,” the speaker said in a statement Monday. “His background as a federal prosecutor and his zeal for the truth make him the ideal person to lead this panel.” Even if his hair looks funny and he wears Rush ties.

We’ll see … stay tuned …

Harold Watson “Trey” Gowdy III was born on August 22, 1964 in Greenville, SC to Novalene (née Evans) and Dr. Harold Watson “Hal” Gowdy, Jr.

Trey graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1982. He earned a B.A. in history from Baylor University in 1986. He was a member of Kappa Omega Tau, a service/social Fraternity while at Baylor University. He earned a J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1989. In law school, he was a member of the scholastic honor society “Wig and Robe.”

Following law school, he clerked for the late John P. Gardner on the South Carolina Court of Appeals and United States District Court Judge Ross Anderson. He then went into private practice before becoming a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina.

During his six years as a federal prosecutor, Trey prosecuted the full range of federal crimes including narcotics trafficking rings, bank robberies, child pornography cases, and the murder of a federal witness. In April 1994, he was awarded the Postal Inspector’s Award for the successful prosecution of J. Mark Allen, one of “America’s Most Wanted” suspects. He also received the highest performance rating a federal prosecutor can receive – two years in a row.

In February 2000, he left the United States Attorney’s Office to run for 7th Circuit Solicitor. The 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office is essentially the District Attorney for the state of South Carolina’s 7th Circuit in criminal cases. He defeated incumbent Solicitor Holman Gossett in the Republican primary. No other party even put up a candidate, ensuring his election in November.

He twice won reelection, in 2004 and 2008, to the office of county solicitor for the state’s seventh judicial circuit, where he sought the death penalty in seven cases and won them all, according to the National Journal.

trey-gowdy-pointing-finger

As 7th Circuit Solicitor, Trey led an office of 25 attorneys and 65 total employees. During his tenure, he started a Violence Against Women Task Force and a Worthless Check Program, enhanced and expanded Drug Court, and implemented a Drug Mother Protocol designed to assist expectant mothers break the cycle of addiction.

He was recognized statewide for his commitment to victim’s rights and drunken driving enforcement and nationally for excellence in death penalty prosecutions.

Representative Gowdy, who rode the conservative tea party wave into Congress in 2010, prefers to call himself “a prosecutor not a politician.”

Trey Gowdy entered Congress with a resolute commitment to the conservative principles that have guided him throughout his years in public service. At the core of those principles lies a firm belief in a limited government that inspires trust and demands accountability.

Representing South Carolina’s 4th District, Representative Gowdy serves on the House Committees on Education and the Workforce, Ethics, Judiciary, and Oversight and Government Reform. He also serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security for the Judiciary Committee. In these capacities, Representative Gowdy has fought to highlight facts, uphold the Constitution, rein in the ever-expanding scope of the federal government, and restore America’s trust with a renewed spirit of honesty, fairness and reason.

trey-gowdy-family

Trey is married to Terri Dillard Gowdy, and they have two children: Watson and Abigail. Terri works for the Spartanburg School District as a teacher’s aide. She is a former Miss Spartanburg and finalist for Miss South Carolina.

Watson is a sophomore at Clemson University and Abigail is a rising 10th grader at Spartanburg High School.

The Gowdy family also includes three dogs: “Judge”, “Jury” and “Bailiff.” So he’s got a sense of humor too!

OK, so he’s supposed to be a conservative. Is he? Make up your own mind. Even though he’s not running for national office (yet), I thought that knowing more about his positions on national issues could help flesh out who the man is – and how he is likely to perceive things brought out during the Benghazi investigation. So, following are a few of Gowdy’s positions on various issues – from On The Issues. More detail on each item is available on the website.

benghazi-liarsSo, now that you know a little more about Trey Gowdy, what do you think that his chances are of getting to the bottom of the Benghazi incident?

I know for sure that I wouldn’t want him prosecuting me.

I’ve got some advice to Obama, Biden, Hillary, Rice, and Carney … be afraid … be very afraid.

WHY anti-Palestine???!!! Doesn’t he know that Israel has pushed them back behind a damned wall? Israel brags that they “own the U.S. Congress”. Palestinians have been pushed out of their homes and their homeland for decades now. People coming to Israel – their “home land”? moved them out and took over their homes long ago. I’ve been singing his praises to everyone I know. Have a huge e-mail list and introduced them all to Trey. Now – I pray he – or you – will do some deep searching for the truth. My heart is hurting now. I called him my new champion. I take it back. (maybe he just doesn’t know?)

    • I am all for the UN giving the so-called Palestinians an empty desert terrain just like they did the Jews, and let them turn it into a viable nation, just like the Jews did. Plenty of empty land in the Sinai, and there is your two-state solution and the hope for a true peace.

      • Sorry for the late reply DAISY! But fair is fair and your solution is fair, but you and I both know that the anti-Israel faction in the UN would never allow anything that is fair to the Jewish nation.

It’s reassuring to me to see how many folks appreciate an honest, dedicated individual who refuses to be politically correct. He’s a heck of a questioner and I’d hate to be on the “hot seat” with him as a prosecutor.

You asked why so many visit this site regarding Trey Gowdy. He resembles good ole Abe Lincoln to me. He is really smart, knows the law, is fast on his feet, regards the Constitution and laws respectfully. He is lanky, witty, and most important HONEST! He is a breath of fresh air and a hero, obviously loves America. So, some of us look for info on him, hoping he will soon be up for POTUS. We certainly need him. Thanks.

I’ve got about 100 visits a day going to the “What you should know about Trey Gowdy” post and I don’t know why. He’s not in the news as much today as he was during the Benghazi hearings – what is the reason for your visiting Pesky Truth? Is someone posting something on Facebook that includes a link? 6. This man is easily the best equipped individual in politics today. I don’t agree with some of his positions (VERY few) but his unmatched intellect, razor sharp strategies and his ability to think insanely fast on his feet can ONLY be resultant of one thing: genuine, sincere desire to deliver the very best he can, at all times.

Show me another politician who demonstrates this genuine character. …..Anyone else come to mind who wouldn’t ( or hasn’t ) sold us out in a heartbeat for personal gain? He is a compelling orator who uses common sense to debate his positions to great effect. You’d have to be beyond ignorant to lie to him. I loved it when the MIT professor was testifying about ignorant erroneous remarks he’d made in some public forum. The good DR. Was explaining that his ignorance and desire to appear smarter than he actually is made him say those moronic things. TGs response? “Let me get this straight…. you’re a professor at MIT and you’re concerned about appearing intelligent”?????

And whenever he talks about Pelossi, it just warms my heart.

I really thought Congress was ignorant or plainly didn’t care about the absurd disregard for the law, outrageous funding, no accountability for ANYTHING…. (I could go on for days) until I saw TG in action. If there are any other Rs in DC that have anything whatsoever going on in their heads, they should BEG Trey to take the AG job in preparation for a Presidential run. Trey is the ONLY decent human being smart enough, committed enough and knowledgeable enough to save this Country.

    • Agree totally, Mark. Gowdy, in my opinion, is one of a kind. We just haven’t seen another member of congress exhibit the numerous abilities that he brings to the table as a prosecutor. He is the best at interrogating witnesses and forcing them to respond with actual statements rather than obfuscations and gobbledegook. He cuts through all of the BS and gets to the heart of the issue. I know I wouldn’t want him questioning me about anything! He would make a great Attorney General!

Thanks for visiting PT and for your comment!

    • Man – you righties really have a little bit of an uncritical fascination with Gowdy. YES, in a field of idiots he stands out … but the issue is why is he standing with so many idiots? (OK—It’s his party affiliation – he can’t help it.) That said, and I do think he’s an honorable enough man with good intent, he has weaknesses. Number 1 job of a politician is to seek compromise – that’s what politics is – and he stinks at that number 1 job about as badly as Elizabeth Warren. #2 job, propose and pass legislation (which requires that you be good at the first job) – he’s really sucky here too. SO, while the righties may have a figurative erection everytime they see Mr. Gowdy, the truth is he’s just not that good at his job unless that job is fund raising from the right or obstruction. He is, unfortunately, what’s wrong with politics mostly on the right (and some on the left) today.

  7. Hey, I’m a lefty and think Gowdy is wrong on so many (not all) issues. Notwithstanding he appears for the most part to be a dedicated public servant and unlike some on the left and right, not a raging hypocrite. I don’t doubt that he responds to his constituents and donors, and like all people is blinded by his P.O.V. from time to time, but absent some real deeply hidden revelations he’s not a bad guy. The politics of character assassination is an art of both the left and the right but as for me I’ll stick more to the easier targets on the right such as Trump and Hastert and Palin and …… (We have a good number on the progressive side too. You can go after them, and assuming you are one of the few on the right to have the good sense to recognize that someone who disagrees with you isn’t necessarily a bad person, you know the right ones to pick on.)

    • That’s ok Ton, we welcome lefties here at PT! I commend you for recognizing that Gowdy is a selfless public servant. I appreciate his dogged determination to get at the truth during questioning a witness. I know I wouldn’t want to have him questioning me.

Yes, I think that Gowdy has found a place in the hearts of many Americans. He embodies what we believe our representatives should be – honest, capable, and above all, a patriot. It is truly disappointing that he wasn’t able to expose Hillary as the evil witch I believe her to be, but with the dems attacking him at every turn and the media protecting her, I guess he did the best he could do.

I’d love to see him as Attorney General. We could resurrect some confidence in the Department of Justice then, God knows the DOJ needs it.

    • I concur, Harry. After watching him grill several witnesses on video, I just know that I wouldn’t want him questioning me if I had anything to hide. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a more dogged, persistent questioner and one who understood the “games” played by a questioner and witness and could anticipate how to cut the witness off “at the pass.”

However, I was disappointed that he wasn’t able to get more answers out of the Benghazi hearings, even knowing that Cummings was doing everything he could do to derail the investigation. He would indeed be a worthy Attorney General.

Recently I began to think about the status of B.Pagliano. I searched google to find that Congress delayed a vote of contempt until after the election, according to two senior House Republican aides on condition of anonymity.

I’m very concerned as to why it was postponed until “after the election”?Perhaps you can answer my concerns
